Drawing from Memory

{Art, Design, Dreams, Fashion, Inspiration, Interiors, Installation, Photography: A visual journal of what we are influenced by and what inspires us as creatives.}

One of the best things we get to do at DFM daily is dream up new ideas and execute beautiful work. We love design in all forms, but when we were flipping through a magazine the other day we found something new and truly stunning : creating clouds in an interior space. Where did our mind go first? How cool would this look in a retail space?! After a little further reading we learned these atmospheric designs pioneered by Berndnaut Smilde last only a second, captured through photography before they dissipate. But hey, a designer can dream! To learn more about the artist and his methods, check out this article in The Washington Post

We are so excited to announce the feature on Refinery29 showcasing the business cards we designed for our client Rachel Hollis, owner of The Chic lifestyle blog. Our cards made the top of the stack, according to Refinery29, and even made it onto the homepage! We couldn't help but share with you the other insanely cool business cards we've made for our clients, so check them out!

Earth Day Green

{ Tuesday, April 22, 2014 }

April 22nd is Earth Day, and to celebrate, we are showing off some of our favorite earthy, natural, green inspiration from Pinterest. From food to foliage, we think nature makes some lovely shades of green!

Black, White, & Romance

{ Monday, March 17, 2014 }

This month the DFM team has been busily working on branding a new line of luxury candles made here in Los Angeles. We've explored several looks for the line: classic, edgy, vintage, contemporary - and we're very happy with how the look and feel is turning out! One look we love that didn't quite make the final cut is black, white and romantic. It's black and white, slightly geometric styling made soft and pretty through the use of pastels in shades of peach, pink, apricot, and blue. While it didn't end up being perfect for our client, it was too lovely to go to waste! See our inspiration below.

Colorful, Aerial Food Photography

{ Wednesday, March 05, 2014 }

This month we're ecstatic to be working with a new client that caters fresh, gourmet food for events, business meetings, and weddings in Los Angeles. In our research to determine the brand look and feel, we've discovered a new category of food photography that we absolutely love: colorful food shot from an aerial view. This view is so atypical compared to a lot of food photography out there; so much so that we find it very appealing! The photography itself is fresh looking, and when the shots are of beautiful, colorful food, the final photos make quite a statement! See some of our favorite colorful, aerial food photos below.

The Lean In Collection

{ Thursday, February 13, 2014 }

Since our start, DFM has always been very focused on supporting women entrepreneurs in their business and personal ventures. This week we were extraordinarily pleased to learn that Getty Images recently launched a new collection of stock photos, the "Lean In Collection", which features 2,500 photos of female leadership in contemporary work and life settings. We're no stranger to stock photos, which we use at some point in many of our web design and marketing/branding projects. However, sometimes it can be quite the challenge to find stock photos that aren't "cheesy" and send the right message for whatever it is we are trying to convey. We like this new collection of photos because it reflects our modern culture in regards to women with good quality, powerful photography. Need we say more?  Click here to see the entire Lean In Collection.

LK Griffin Photography

{ Friday, February 07, 2014 }

Anyone who knows the DFM team personally is well aware that our Creative Director, Jen, isn't typically one to share too many details about her personal life. However, Jen and her husband Geoff are expecting another son in the very near future, and in this case she wanted to share a few pictures from the family photo session with LK Griffin Photography this past weekend. Their photographer, Katherine, captured some amazing moments of the White / Duckworth family (including their son, Fox) and the results were just too precious not to share. The Gilded Jungle

{ Wednesday, January 15, 2014 }

It's been a busy few months here at DFM! The new year has brought some exciting new projects along with it, and the DFM team is ecstatic to dive right in head first. This month we're busily working on a branding, strategy, and design project for a new brand of rum headquartered here in LA that is due to launch in the new few months. Paying homage to the product's origins in Panama, we've dubbed the look "The Gilded Jungle", bringing the best of the jungle to the luxury laid back lifestyle of Southern California. Below is just a taste of our branding journey as we give the brand a unique identity. Next up is our packaging designs to communicate the look and feel... stay tuned for more!

Black is the New Black

{ Friday, November 29, 2013 }

Black Friday has become somewhat of a ridiculous, overwhelming "tradition" in the world of retail. At DFM we're no stranger to e-commerce sales and promotions, and Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the entire year (as well as Cyber Monday, of course). While we're far more excited for the time spent with family this weekend, we hope all our clients (and other small businesses out there!) get whatever it is they're looking for out of Black Friday. To "celebrate"this shopping holiday, here are a few black things that we like just a little bit more than Black Friday. Happy Thanksgiving!

Trade Show Booths

{ Thursday, November 14, 2013 }

Over at DFM we have been busy, busy working with our new cosmetics client on their upcoming trade show in Paris. We really love how our trade show booth design is turning out, but here's a couple more we thought were pretty beautiful. What could be better than great design at larger-than-life size?
